About Matt
I'm VP Platforms at Remarkable, a UK digital agency, and an Optimizely Strategy MVP. I've been building on Optimizely since 2009, when it was still Episerver.
I started in IT support, became a developer, then a lead developer, head of development and CTO, so I've seen Optimizely projects from the code up to the board. These days most of my time goes on the decisions around a platform: which products and versions an organisation needs, how to make the business case, how to plan the work, and how to keep getting value after go-live.
I'm often in the room for pitches and discovery workshops, and I act as the senior technical owner on large programmes. I also lead how our engineering teams use AI: coding agents, shared skills, and checks that keep cost and quality under control.
Here I write about the strategy side of Optimizely: platform and upgrade decisions, adoption and governance, experimentation as a business habit, and how AI agents change the way digital teams work.
How I got here
- 2026 – nowVP Platforms, Remarkable
I lead the platform engineering teams across Optimizely, Sitecore, Dynamics 365 and .NET, and how we use AI in engineering.

I ran the Optimizely practice as Ultimedia became part of the Remarkable brand.
- 2020 – 2024CTO, Ultimedia
I ran engineering, QA, support and project management. We went from Silver to Platinum Optimizely partner in under a year, and in 2024 Optimizely named Remarkable its Rising Star Solution Partner of the Year.

I led the development team.
- 2009 – 2016Developer to lead developer, Ultimedia
Seven years building Episerver sites at one of the UK’s longest-standing Episerver partners, moving from developer to senior and then lead developer.
- 2001 – 2009Early career
IT support, a BEng in Computer Systems Engineering with a year at PwC, then my first developer roles.
How I lead
My style is supportive. I trust people to bring their ideas and deliver, stay close enough to help when they need it, and invest in their long-term growth, including certifications and MVP applications.
I run teams on the Entrepreneurial Operating System (EOS): short daily stand-ups, quarterly goals ("Rocks"), weekly leadership meetings and a scorecard of the few numbers that matter.

The Optimizely MVP programme recognises people who share what they know with the Optimizely community. I've been a Strategy MVP every year since 2024.
- Journey to CTO (February 2025). A talk for developers thinking about leadership: my route from IT support to CTO, what the job involves day to day, its pros and cons, the skills that matter when you move from code to strategy, and how to tell whether the role is right for you.
- I help colleagues prepare their own MVP applications.
- I took part in Optimizely's 2024 hackathon in London.
- I've mentored young people at digital-industry schools days.
